Rural Youth Harnessing the Power of ICT

BY: Fabretto

In 2018, Fabretto partnered with Tinker Foundation to strengthen its Tutorial Learning System (SAT) in remote rural communities of Nicaragua. The partnership derives from the conviction that all youth need to develop 21st-century skills that allow them to be creative and critical thinkers, and to leverage technology in the workplace.

The project partnership aims to technologically enhance and digitize the SAT’s program curriculum, as well as align SAT’s technical training offerings with the 21st-century economy, focusing on technology, communications, and problem-solving, all while improving SAT’s cost-effectiveness, environmental-friendliness, and potential for scale.

About SAT

SAT offers rural youth in Nicaragua an alternative to secondary education, as well as technical labor training (SATec). The six pillars of the SAT curriculum include mathematics, natural sciences, literature, language and communication, agricultural technology, and community service. Through SAT, students learn to identify economic opportunities in their communities and to develop small business initiatives through cooperatives, student alliances, or individual initiatives.  Learn more.
