At Fabretto, we believe in the power of education to enable children and youth—our future leaders— to break the cycle of poverty. We strive to bring meaningful opportunities for growth, development, and learning to children, youth, and families. By partnering with organizations and funders who serve children and youth in countries across Central America, we can amplify our impact, serving those who serve.

Where We Work

Fabretto’s mission centers on empowering children, youth, and communities in Central America. To support our work, Fabretto operates two legally incorporated non-profit organizations, Fabretto Children’s Foundation in the United States of America and Fundación Fabretto in Spain. All of our programs are carried out in Central America, currently in Honduras and Guatemala.

More than 50% of the populations of Honduras and Guatemala live in poverty, with rural areas most affected by lack of material resources

Fewer than 50% of youth in Guatemala and Honduras complete their secondary education

Nearly 4 out of every 5 students in the sixth grade do not meet minimum standards in reading and mathematics, according to ERCE international assessments

Central America is a beautiful region abundant with natural resources, diversity, and cultural heritage. Fabretto is proud to be a Central American-grown organization founded in Nicaragua over 70 years ago. Today, we work primarily in Honduras and Guatemala, working alongside our local partners to create educational opportunities.

Central America has made significant strides in increasing primary education coverage. However, education quality continues to lag. Too many children spend years attending school without developing core skills, like literacy. Additionally, coverage of preschool and secondary education remains low, particularly in the most isolated rural communities.

Fabretto is committed to addressing key challenges, including:

Limited access to quality, play-based pre-primary education, especially in rural areas
Education quality challenges, leading to children who struggle with literacy, mathematics, and social emotional skills
Limited access to secondary education in rural Central American communities
Widespread chronic child malnutrition, particularly in Guatemala, which has the sixth highest rate of child malnutrition in the world
Few skills training opportunities for rural youth
Demand for education that contributes to social emotional development, gender equality, and integration of all community members
