Remembering Zachary Ciperski and a Lifetime of Service

BY: Anina Hewey

On March 9th, the children and teachers at Fabretto’s Acahualinca Center joyfully received a donation of much-needed school materials and dental health supplies for 6 classrooms. Juanita, Acahualinca’s Director, commented that the Center had just identified the need for more toothbrushes and toothpaste that very week. Sometimes, generosity extends from across the world right when it is most needed.

These donations were collected and sent to Nicaragua by Jill Ciperski, inspired by the memory of her brother, Zachary Ciperski, a longtime Fabretto supporter. Their father, Ed Ciperski, brought the donations to Nicaragua while visiting Fabretto’s programs with the Friends of Fabretto Trip. The receiving Education Center is located in Acahualinca near the Managua dump, where Zach sponsored a child for three years. The Ciperski Family’s story shows how a lifetime of service can lead to a legacy of impact and inspiration.

The Ciperski Family

Zachary Ciperski was known to all who met him as a giving, caring person. Alongside a successful career in the tech industry, Zach supported a number of non-profit organizations, including Fabretto. His love for travel led him to visit more than 55 countries, and one of these journeys brought him to Nicaragua, where he connected with Fabretto and visited our Education Centers in the northern mountains. The experience impacted him greatly and motivated him to work for change for the children whom he had met.

His co-worker, Ben Kirschner, recalled Zach’s reflections on his trip to Nicaragua in a 2011 blog post. In Zach’s words: “Nicaragua is a victim of its own dichotomy. It’s a country that’s been blessed with beautiful landscapes, lush greenery, mountaintop views that will take your breath away and genuine, caring people who welcome you into their homes and hearts. But there’s a level of poverty and hopelessness in Nicaragua that breaks my heart.”

After his trip to Nicaragua, Zach became a dedicated supporter and advocate for Fabretto’s mission. He donated to support Fabretto’s programs, became a Child Sponsor, and shared his passion for the cause with his co-workers, friends, and family. An experienced SEO professional, Zach motivated his company, Elite SEM, to create a corporate social responsibility initiative (Elite Cares), and Fabretto was the first organization to receive pro-bono digital marketing support.

Zach’s generous spirit has continued to inspire others to serve after his untimely passing last year. Zach is missed by the Fabretto community and all who knew him. We are deeply grateful for his and the entire Ciperski family’s support.
