We love our NGO partners!

BY: Fabretto

On World NGO Day, we celebrate our partners across the world who make our work in Nicaragua possible. Without your support, we would not be able to impact the lives of so many children, youth, parents, teachers, and entire communities. Gracias!

Today, we would like to highlight some of our most recent collaborations, which have helped enhance the learning experience for children and youth in our education programs.

Classroom Overhaul in San Isidro de Bolas, Managua

Thanks to a wonderful partnership with Rockway Foundation, Roviralta Foundation, and Diputación de Jaén, our SAT students at the San Isidro de Bolas Education Center can start the new school year with newly-renovated classrooms. In 2014, one of the classroom buildings in the center was condemned due to the damages sustained during an earthquake. With the support of these three generous organizations, the necessary repairs to the structure and roof of the building have been completed. Additionally, the classroom buildings in San Isidro now count with new ceilings, doors, and paint.

Before and after

These classrooms house the future leaders of Nicaragua. Thank you for making their future brighter!

Sports and Education for the Win!

February 2019 marks the end of a very special project funded by Barcelona Esports Institute. Starting in January of 2018, children in the municipality of San Jose de Cusmapa had the opportunity to participate in various sports activities and tournaments. The goal of the project was to contribute to the socio-educational integration of more than 300 children through sports. These team-based activities created safe spaces for marginalized children; spaces that facilitated recreation, learning, and socialization.

According to a UNICEF study, when children incorporate at least five hours of physical activity during the week, they achieve better grades than those who have one hour or less of weekly activity (UNICEF, 2007). The Barcelona Esports project resulted in improving the academic performance of children and adolescents, mainly in school attendance and participation. These sports activities also led to the development of interpersonal skills such as teamwork, leadership, and responsibility in the children who participated.

Although the Barcelona Esports project concludes this month, we are happy to announce that UEFA Foundation has confirmed funding for a similar project throughout 2019. The beneficiaries of this project will not only include the children of Cusmapa, but also children from Las Sabanas, Ocotal, and Estelí. In addition to organizing sports activities in these education centers, the new project will include teacher training in Play to Learn methodologies that will improve the academic performance of beneficiaries of Fabretto’s Educational Enrichment Program.

Gracias, Barcelona Esports and UEFA Foundation for helping Fabretto celebrate diversity and inclusion through sports!
