See you later, Chela!

BY: Diana Corrales

Two years ago, Anina Hewey became part of the Marketing & Communications team as the new Communications Associate. Her arrival was nearly silent, but it didn’t take long for her presence to start making noise at Fabretto.

For the staff in Managua, it was not a novelty to see a “gringa” walking around the office. It is very common to receive American volunteers at Fabretto each year. For the same reason, she stopped being surprised by the constant question of “how long are you staying in Nicaragua?” Her response – “indefinitely” – would always surprise them for her master of Nicaraguan gestures and slang.

Anina spent six years living in Nicaragua and is best known among her friends as “la chela,” a term used to reference a blond girl who is ‘almost’ Nicaraguan. During her time with Fabretto, specifically with the Marketing & Communications team, she has demonstrated an immense passion and dedication to her work. Her blog posts have touched the hearts of many, turning readers into volunteers, sponsors, and donors. There is no doubt that this has been achieved by her innate talent in communications, but also for her ability to connect with the stories of Fabretto beneficiaries. It has certainly been a true luxury to have Anina’s impeccable work and dedication to Fabretto for the past two years.

Today, Anina is leaving Fabretto in order to continue her studies at Harvard University. We all know that she has a great future ahead of her, so we must stop being selfish and although it’s hard to let her go, we know all the good that comes into our lives should be shared with others.

Anina, don’t forget what a big mark you have left on this organization; on behalf of all of the Fabretto family, we want to say THANK YOU and we wish you the very best. We just have one last request from your beloved Marketing & Communications team… keep retweeting! 😉

See you later, Chela!
