Motivated Teachers: Fabretto Agents of Change

BY: Diana Corrales

At Fabretto, we believe in the power of education to enable children and youth—the future leaders of Nicaragua—to break the cycle of poverty. Our holistic approach to education involves the entire community, and teachers play an important role.

In Nicaragua, 72% of pre-school teachers, 26% of primary teachers and 43% of secondary education teachers have no training. That’s why we train teachers to help them become the best they can be and improve quality education for thousands in underserved communities of Nicaragua. Since Fabretto teachers are specifically ‘trained-to-train’ other teachers at their schools, this activity is a cost effective way of disseminating knowledge to hard-to-reach rural schools in Nicaragua.

With the right training, teachers are motivated to become agents of change in their communities. This is the case of Marcia, an outstanding pre-school teacher in rural Nicaragua. For seven years, Marcia opened her home to her students because the children in Aguascalients had no public pre-school nearby. Read Marcia’s full story in our 2014 Annual Report.
