Our Impact

The goal of our programs is to create opportunities for children to learn and thrive and to engage youth for a productive, fulfilled future. Together with our Impact Partners, we are positively impacting thousands of students and teachers each year.

How We Create Impact

We believe in the power of partnerships and that working together with families, communities, and local partners creates sustainable change. Read more about Partnership Model and how Fabretto multiples the impact of locally-led organizations.

Improving Children’s Learning and Nutritional Outcomes

For the past decade, Fabretto’s Education Program has focused on improving the quality of education in preschool and primary classrooms. Our work centers particularly on kindergarten through the third grade, when children set the foundations for learning to read.

In 2014, Fabretto’s approach to training rural preschool teachers to use play-based strategies in the classroom was recognized as a Re-Imagine Learning Prize Winner by the LEGO Foundation and Ashoka Changemakers.

Through our Nutrition Program, Fabretto works to increase access to nutritious school meals. We collaborate with local partners and government schools to improve child nutrition. Fabretto has served more than 7 million school meals over the past ten years in Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala.

Innovating for Rural Youth Skills Development

Youth are the future of Central America, yet too many young people have no access to post-primary education nor meaningful opportunities in the workforce. We are working to change that through our CapTec program, one of the initiatives that is part of our Youth Empowerment Program.

CapTec is a unique learning-by-doing program designed by Fabretto to meet the needs of rural Central American youth. CapTec combines skills training in agriculture and other areas relevant to the rural economy, while also reinforcing literacy and mathematics skills, contributing to personal development, and promoting service to the community.

Since its inception in 2016, CapTec has:

  • Trained 2,000+ rural youth in Nicaragua and Honduras
  • Established more than 120 youth-led productive initiatives in rural communities
  • Averaged a 90%+ retention rate and helped youth remain in alternative secondary education programs, while also learning in CapTec
