Our Partnership Model

Fabretto collaborates with nonprofit organizations that work on the ground with communities in Latin America to empower children, youth, and their families in one or both of our two impact areas: Children’s Learning & Development and Youth Skills & Empowerment.

Fabretto began working with local partners in Honduras in 2022, after nearly seven decades of work in Nicaraguan communities (read more about Our History).

We work with local partners because we believe in the Power of Partnerships. Together, we can do more and increase the positive impact on children and youth in Central America.

Two People Sitting at a Desk

Our partnerships grow out of mutual desire from Fabretto and the Partner to enhance and scale up the impact on the communities served. Our goal is to walk alongside our partners to increase our collective impact on children, youth, and communities.

Fabretto is uniquely positioned to accompany local partners and help them strengthen and scale up their impact.

Why Our Model is Unique

Our model is based on the concept of “acompañamiento” – accompanying local partner organizations as they, in turn, accompany the educational paths of thousands of children and youth in Central America.

Our partners bring:
  • Deep knowledge of the communities where they work
  • Boots on the ground
  • Many of our partners have their own, highly impactful models that have the potential to scale up
  • Interest in partnership with Fabretto
We bring:
  • 70 years of experience running a grassroots organization in Nicaragua and firsthand knowledge of the challenges that our partners face each day
  • Technical and pedagogical support
  • Proven educational models, like CapTec and SAT
  • Expertise in engaging donors of all types and sizes
  • Experience with introducing and scaling up impactful programs
Our work together:

Based on collaborative needs assessments, together we sign a partnership agreement and develop a plan of action. Each plan is specific to our partner’s needs. Unlike many in the international cooperation space, our commitment to our partners is long-term, and we hope that our partnerships continue to grow and change over time. Plans of action may include:

  • Introducing new methodologies
  • Teacher training and staff development services
  • Co-implementing programs, like Child Sponsorship
  • Making targeted investments to scale up impactful programs
  • Collaborating to develop new approaches
  • Advocacy at the national and international level
  • Engagement of donors and other partners, including fiscal sponsorship through Fabretto’s 501c3
  • Institutional strengthening in areas like M&E and communications

Partnership Criteria

Fabretto uses these guidelines when beginning to explore a partnership with a new organization.

Our Partners:
  • Focus on underserved communities: Like Fabretto, our partners are working to empower children, youth, and families in underserved communities with a particular focus in the most remote, rural areas.
  • Community-embedded: We work with organizations that are closely connected to communities on the ground and have a deep understanding of stakeholder needs.
  • Committed to shared values: Our partners share our core values of Equity, Integrity, Innovation, and Service, as well as commit to our child protection.
  • Looking to grow and deepen their impact: We partner with organizations that are interested in growing their work and strengthening their programs together with Fabretto and willing to contribute time and resources to our partnership.
  • Invested in capacity building: Beyond programming, our partners engage in knowledge-sharing and work with us to improve capacity across the organization, in areas including but not limited to project management, strategic communications, and engagement, particularly in the U.S. and Spain.

Becoming a Partner

While Fabretto is not actively looking to expand our partnership portfolio at this time, we are always interested in learning about other organizations that are working in Central America.
