We recently presented our Annual Report in Managua, Nicaragua; the presentation took place Wednesday, August 26, and was attended by private sector, media, government and non-government representatives. Fabretto student beneficiaries and teachers were also present at the event to share their experience and stories of success.

Our holistic approach supports the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and Post-2015 Agenda, working towards transformation at community level, ensuring that parents, teachers and decision makers also receive the necessary training to contribute to the development of children and youth at risk.

”By working together with the community, we have come a little closer to our goal: ensuring that all children in Nicaragua reach their full potential for a better future,” commented Kevin Marinacci, Fabretto Executive Director.

To reach that goal, in 2014 Fabretto strengthened its educational programs through innovative methodologies. Our Early Education Program was recognized as a winner of the LEGO Foundation/Ashoka Changemakers Re-imagine Learning Challenge. As a result, Fabretto joined a network of global leaders in education and will continue dialogue on best practices in the field. In response to the coffee crisis, Fabretto’s Rural Education Program (SAT) strenghthened its learning by earning approach. Thanks to partnerships with Mayorga and Burke Agro Organics, youth were empowered to generate vital income for their families as they learned how to diversify their family farms with organic chia, honey, and tropical fruit.

Teachers are an essential part of Fabretto’s work. Through innovative training methodologies, teachers are able to improve the level of education in at-risk communities. Fabretto also recognizes the important role of parents in their children’s education, promoting parent training programs on nutrition and health. Through inclusive education, we are creating healthy environments for children’s positive development.

Fabretto program achievements include:

– 99% of Fabretto primary education beneficiaries stayed in school for the entire year

– 1,220 teachers trained in innovative methodologies since the year 2000

– 884 parents and mothers trained in nutrition and health

– Over 830,900 school meals served in 2014, contributing to student academic performance

– 93% of 2014 Fabretto Rural Secondary Program (SAT) graduates are actively working or pursuing further education
