On June 19^th, a group of 17 students from Kaukauna High School visited our Education Center in Estelí for a day of cultural exchange with Fabretto students. Kaukauna participates in Fabretto’s Classroom 2 Classroom (C2C) virtual exchange program, which connects our students in Nicaragua with high school students in the U.S.  The youth had exchanged letters and cultural conversations, and the experience culminated with the visit to Nicaragua.

The 19 Fabretto secondary students who had participated in C2C had been looking forward to this day for a long time! They helped plan the day’s events, rehearsed cultural performances, and even organized mini-fundraisers to purchase extra supplies.

The day was packed with activities that helped the youth share their cultures and experiences with one another. At our Education Center, the students met their virtual “pen pals” in person and played games to break the ice. Fabretto students also performed folkloric dance and Nicaraguan songs for the visitors. One of the highlights was breaking a piñata, which was handmade by our students to share with their new friends from the U.S.

Later, the Kaukauna students visited the school that Fabretto built in La Cruz, the municipal trash dump, where they shared a snack with the primary students and visited homes in the community. They also donated toys, toothbrushes, and toothpaste to the children.

Overall, the day was a wonderful opportunity for all of the students to engage in cultural exchange. Fabretto sincerely thanks Kaukauna High School, lead teacher Anne Marie, and all of the students for visiting the Center and for participating in C2C.
