Un Mundo: Transforming Lives in the Cangrejal River Basin

Comunidad Fabretto

At Comunidad Fabretto, we celebrate partnerships that multiply impact and strengthen community development. In this spirit of collaboration, we are excited to highlight the work of Un Mundo, a Honduran organization based in El Pital, La Ceiba, that supports 23 communities along the Cangrejal River with a clear vision: to promote dignity, equity, and self-sufficiency. With a deeply human and community-centered approach, Un Mundo implements programs that open real opportunities for children, youth, and families in rural areas.

Education that Cultivates Knowledge and Community

Un Mundo’s Literacy Connection program has been a driving force for learning, reaching over 1,000 people across 9 communities. Through reading clubs, adult literacy programs, school storytime, and the iconic Bibliobandido, reading becomes a bridge to new ideas, imagination, and empowerment. Community activities like Book Day, Tree Day, and school gatherings bring together generations, reminding us that education is a collective effort that strengthens the social fabric.

Leadership with a Woman’s Face

Gender equality is a central pillar for Un Mundo. Its Weaving Dreams program supports 30 rural adolescent girls, offering training in human rights, leadership, self-esteem, and community advocacy. These young women have already achieved significant milestones, such as participating in the creation of La Ceiba’s Municipal School Safeguarding Policy, benefiting over 34,000 students. They are currently developing a simplified version of the policy to ensure all families and communities understand how to protect children in educational settings.

Health and Special Education: Inclusion that Transforms Lives

Through the Health and Special Education program, Un Mundo serves 70 children with autism, ADHD, and various learning challenges. Under the guidance of psychologist Annette Castellano and a team of facilitators, individualized educational plans are created to support each child according to their needs, while facilitators are trained to foster genuine inclusion in public schools. Coordinated with the Ministry of Education, this work opens doors for more children to learn and grow with dignity.

Looking to the Future: Growing Together with Fabretto Community

Fabretto is proud to continue this partnership and support new opportunities that will allow Un Mundo to expand its impact in 2025 and 2026. Priorities include expanding women’s and community entrepreneurship initiatives and offering the “Start Your Future” Course to women entrepreneurs in the communities served. Community leaders and women interested in starting their own businesses will receive training and mentorship to strengthen their economic independence. School gardens were initiated in educational centers with dedicated spaces. Next year, technical training and assistance for facilitators will be provided to improve soil management and ensure that gardens become a sustainable source of learning and nutrition.

United for a More Just Future

For Comunidad Fabretto, walking alongside Un Mundo is a commitment to a future full of possibilities. In every child who learns to read, in every youth who discovers their leadership, in every child who receives specialized support, and in every school that grows its own food, we see the power of a partnership that transforms lives. Together, we continue building the future, one community at a time.
