Share Your Heart this February!

BY: Anina Hewey

Did you know that last year the United States population spent over 18.6 billion dollars on Valentine’s Day gifts? Yes, that’s right – billions! The average person will spend around $130, according to National Retail Foundation (NRF) statistics. Imagine for a moment if those 18.6 billion dollars were donated to support children in need. How many lives could be changed?

This February, we invite you to help us raise awareness by donating in honor of a loved one in lieu of a traditional gift, and show your love by helping children in Nicaragua reach a better future.

For the average price of a dinner for two at a restaurant on Valentine’s Day, around one hundred dollars, Fabretto can provide a meal for over 120 children, six whole classrooms. In Nicaragua, 25% of children under age five suffer from malnourishment, leading to growth stunting, academic struggles, and lifelong health problems. Fabretto responds to this need with a school lunch program that gives 12,000 children a nutritious meal, which supports healthy growth and helps children focus and learn during the school day.

Similarly, with fifty dollars, less than the average price of a dozen roses, ten students can receive a textbook. Most families lack the resources to buy books for their children, and in many classrooms, 5-6 young people will share one book. Providing all students with their own books ensures that they have the tools they need to learn.

The most common Valentine’s Day gift is a box of chocolates and a card, and the NRF calculates average spending around thirty dollars. In Nicaragua, that means a month of education and a daily meal for a child in need—a life-changing gift that leads to a better future.

This Valentine’s Day, break the mold and Share Your Heart! Honor your loved ones by giving education and nutrition to children and Nicaragua. The honoree will receive a beautiful tribute card and a special message on the Fabretto Wall of Hearts.
