Nourishing Children, Opening Doors to Learning

BY: Wendy Gámez

More than 2.8 million school meals and 100,000 kilograms of corn harvested are helping thousands of children grow, learn, and thrive in Guatemala and Honduras.

“There are children who eat up to four times here.”

These are the words of Pastora Sánchez, a cook at the San Isidro Child Development Center, operated by our partner Fundacion ACOES.  From her kitchen, Pastora witnesses a reality that few people get to see firsthand: for many children, the meals they receive at the center mean far more than food.

“Sometimes, when they don’t eat here, they go hungry at home,” she explains. “It’s almost as if they want to store the food in their stomachs, thinking, ‘If I don’t eat tomorrow, at least I have food in me today.'”

Her words reflect a reality faced by many families in the communities where we work. For these children, a meal represents peace of mind. It means knowing there will be something to eat today and feeling reassured that someone cares about their well-being.

Some children arrive having eaten very little for breakfast. Others know that the meal they receive at school or at the center will be the most nutritious one of their day. That is why school and community feeding programs do more than fight hunger—they create the conditions children need to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.

Working Together for Nutrition and Learning

Addressing food insecurity requires collective action. That is why Fabretto works alongside organizations and partners who share the belief that no child should have to face hunger in order to learn.

One of those partners is Feed My Starving Children, whose support makes it possible for MannaPack meals to reach communities in Guatemala and Honduras, strengthening feeding programs that benefit thousands of children.

Thanks to the commitment of our strategic partners and the support of Feed My Starving Children and MannaPack, more than 2.8 million school meals have been delivered in 2025 to communities that believe in the transformative power of education.

In addition, more than 100,000 kilograms of corn have been harvested to strengthen school feeding programs and contribute to the well-being and resilience of thousands of families.

These results are made possible through a network of collaboration that brings together communities, schools, local organizations, and international partners around a shared goal: creating opportunities for every child to grow, learn, and build a brighter future.

Nourishing Children Means Educating Them

Education and nutrition are deeply connected.

A child who arrives at school hungry faces greater challenges concentrating, participating, and retaining information. When basic needs are met, however, children can devote their energy to learning, discovering, and dreaming about what lies ahead.

That is why every meal served represents much more than nutritional support. It is an investment in children’s development and in the future of their communities.

Nourishing children also means educating them. It means helping them arrive at school with energy, confidence, and the freedom to focus on their dreams rather than worrying about when they will eat next.

Looking Ahead

At Fabretto, we continue working to ensure that no child has to worry about saving food in their stomach for tomorrow.

We are strengthening partnerships, expanding school feeding programs, and supporting communities so that more children can grow up with the peace of mind of knowing they will be cared for tomorrow as well.

Because when we nourish a child, we also nourish their opportunities, their learning, and their future.

Together, we can help more children grow up knowing that tomorrow there will be a meal waiting for them, a community supporting them, and an opportunity to keep learning.

Help provide the next meal.

Watch the Story Behind the Impact

Numbers help tell the story, but the voices of the people who experience this work every day reveal its true meaning.

Pastora Sánchez has seen firsthand how a meal can represent far more than food—it can mean security, hope, and a chance to learn.

We invite you to watch her story and discover how, together with our partners and supporters, we are helping children grow, learn, and build brighter futures.
