Nicaraguan Jazz Trio Performs in Embassy Series to Benefit Fabretto

On Friday, November 18, The Embassy Series in cooperation with Fabretto Children’s Foundation gathered over 75 guests at the Embassy of Nicaragua to enjoy a special Jazz Concert performance by the Darwin Noguera Trio.

The Embassy Series was founded in 1993 by Jerome Barry to unite people through musical diplomacy. Every year, embassies in Washington, D.C. offer their venue for special concerts. This was the first time the Embassy of Nicaragua participated and also a first for partnering and showcasing a non-profit working in the host country.
Ambassador Francisco Campbell and his wife, Mrs. Miriam Hooker, Deputy Chief of Mission, were present throughout the evening to welcome guests and enjoy the concert and buffet dinner.

The program began with remarks by Ambassador Campbell recognizing the importance of music and the arts in Nicaragua. The Ambassador also gave high praise for Fabretto’s long-standing work in education and nutrition for over 20,000 children in Nicaragua. He mentioned his recent visit to a Fabretto school in Managua and how impressed he was with the operation and results for the children.

Kathy Baczko, Fabretto’s EVP and Chief Development Officer, followed with a brief history of Fabretto, the legacy of Padre Fabretto, and a description of the holistic education programs that range from maternal health, through early childhood, primary, and secondary school in the more remote parts of Nicaragua. She praised the beauty and people of the country and invited all to visit Nicaragua for vacation and stop in to see a Fabretto school in action.

The Jazz performance was a vibrant hour of music by Darwin Noguera, Jazz Piano, Tamir Shmerling, Bass, and E.J. Strickland, Drums. Darwin Noguera is Nicaraguan and a rising star in the jazz world. The selection of music included traditional, native Nicaraguan, and many composed by Noguera. Mr. Noguera was especially honored to be playing in his country’s Embassy for the Ambassador and diverse audience.
