New Partner Highlight: Xch’ool Ixim

Youth group

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with the Asociación Q’eqchi’ Xch’ool Ixim in Guatemala. This organization serves the indigenous Q’eqchi’ people. Its name in the Q’eqchi’ language means “heart of corn” and refers to its dedication and commitment to the culture of the region.

Xch’ool Ixim’s work in the rural region of Nimlah’akok, in the Cobán region of Alta Verapaz, focuses on the holistic education of children and youth.

After several months of conversations, we have begun the implementation of the nutrition program through the supply of fortified soy (MannaPack) in 44 elementary schools. Xch’ool Ixim’s goal is to reach 2,700 children in the area.

Other initiatives

In addition, Fabretto and Xch’ool Ixim are in the process of planning the implementation of the CaTec program for the period 2025-2027, with the goal of training young people and promoting the economic development of the community. This year, we will collaborate to train 30 young people in agricultural production over an eight-month period, from April to October. This project will support more than 700 family members of these youth.

We also explored other opportunities for collaboration with Xch’ool Ixim in the future. Some project ideas include: improving corn production for food security in the region, strengthening the teaching profession through training, and local institutional development efforts.
