In the battle against malnutrition and poverty, partnerships are crucial. This is especially true in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, where malnutrition rates are among the highest in the country. For example, In 2024, Alta Verapaz reported 3,416 cases of acute malnutrition, accounting for approximately 35% of Guatemala’s national total of 28,701 cases.
These two organizations, Xch’ool Ixim and Talita Kumi, didn’t know each other initially, but both share a common goal: strengthening education in the Q’eqchi’ area of Alta Verapaz as part of the Fabretto Community. Their collaboration to tackle malnutrition leverages MannaPack meals, provided to each organization by Fabretto with support from the creator of MannaPack, Feed My Starving Children. This alliance is a perfect example of how working together can amplify impact.
Why MannaPack Meals Matter
MannaPack meals provide essential nutrients and can be easily incorporated into local recipes, making them culturally relevant and part of a balanced diet.
Tackling Malnutrition Together
Xc’hool Ixim is learning culturally appropriate recipes for the MannaPack meals for the Q’eqchi’ communities, ensuring that they can make the most of the nutrition provided. This knowledge allows them to integrate the meals into traditional diets, enhancing their effectiveness in the local context.
In April, Talita Kumi invited Xch’ool Ixim staff to learn about how they prepare MannaPack. Talita Kumi students demonstrated some of the recipes they have developed. This locally-led exchange of knowledge is key to making sustainable improvements to nutrition.

A Unified Effort for Change
The malnutrition crisis in Alta Verapaz requires a unified effort from NGOs, local communities, and organizations like Feed My Starving Children. Together, we can provide lasting solutions to nutrition and poverty.
Today, Fabretto is working with a network of 9 partners to integrate MannaPack in school meals programs.
Through partnerships like this, we move closer to a future where no child suffers from hunger. The power of collaboration is clear—together, we can make a difference.
