Fabretto shares innovative work in education with international audience at the WISE Summit

BY: Diana Corrales

Thanks to the success of our innovative tutorial-based rural secondary education program (SAT), Fabretto was selected from hundreds of projects around the world as one of fourteen finalists for the WISE Awards. Fabretto was honored to be recognized as a leader and innovator in the field of education, which means that our students receive education of international quality.

WISE (World Innovation Summit for Education) was created by the Qatar Foundation to provide a platform to bring together leaders in education and projects that demonstrate creative new approaches to solving global challenges in education. Through dynamic dialogue and debate at the Summit, WISE unites a network of more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations, think tanks, policy makers, and global leaders.

The 2013 WISE Summit as held in Doha, Qatar from October 29-31. Representing Fabretto, Director of Programs Helena Edwards delivered a presentation about Fabretto’s sustainable approach to eradicating poverty in Nicaragua. She stated, “Our vision continues to be the same as Father Rafael María Fabretto’s: reaching a better future for the children; nevertheless, our strategic approach has changed to empower our children through access to quality education, through sustainable programs that involve the entire community… working together to improve the children’s lives.”

WISE’s recognition confirmed that Fabretto’s SAT program is truly on the cutting edge of new developments in education; this year, the special WISE Prize for Education, awarded to an individual for an outstanding contribution to education, was presented to Vicky Colbert, founder of the Escuela Nueva model, a rural education program that closely resembles SAT.

Fabretto was honored to present alongside so many creative, forward thinking leaders and for the chance to share Fabretto’s work on an international stage. Helena’s full presentation and the presentations of other finalists and winners are available on the official WISE page.
