Volunteering in the United States

There are a number of different ways that you can help in the United States. We have need for administrative support, event committee members, house party hosts and translators. If you are interested in any of the jobs described, or have some other skill you would like to share with us, please fill out the Volunteer Inquiry Form – we’ll be glad to hear from you!

Administrative Support
We can always use people who are good editors, who have experience with website content and management, or who are willing to manage small projects such as our baskets program. Most of these duties can be performed from home as most tasks are web-based. If you are in the DC area, you can help with general office support tasks at our office in Arlington.

Event Committees
One of the more fun ways to help out is by participating on an event committee for one of our annual events in New York, Washington, Chicago, Cincinnati and Miami. The primary duties for committee members is to invite friends and co-workers to attend the event, request donations for our silent auctions, and solicit general and sponsorship level contributions in support of the event. It’s a great way to work with and get to know a whole host of people who are committed to improving the lives of young children. Find out more about our Events and get involved!

House Party Host
As a House Party host, you would invite a group of friends, family or co-workers for a cocktails, a dinner, a barbeque or any kind of gathering that you organize to introduce them to our work. We will supply you with a “Party in a Box” with all the FCF informational materials that you might need. You can make use of our Fabretto House Party Center to manage your party and guest list. When feasible and if you desire, we will have one of our senior staff or Board Members available in person or via conference call to answer questions your guests might have about our programs and objectives. Our existing friends and supporters are our greatest source of donor base growth - please consider helping us in this very important effort!

Translators
Anyone who is fluent in Spanish and English can act as a translator for our Child Sponsorship Program. In this task, you will translate letters from sponsored children to their sponsors (Spanish to English), from sponsors to the kids (English to Spanish), or copies of the profiles that are sent to new sponsors. All of the work can be done via email. This is a great way to help us, plus you get to really learn about the children and their lives in Nicaragua.

The Fabretto Children's Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, tax ID #36-3894824.

Did you know?
  • Until 2001, the Fabretto Children’s Foundation was an all volunteer organization.
  • FCF started because Kevin Marinacci, our founder, went to Nicaragua after finishing college to do one year of volunteer service.  He was placed with Father Fabrettto and the rest is history – he’s now been there over 15 years!
  • Our current Child Sponsorship Coordinator is a volunteer.
  • Our annual events around the country help raise critically needed unrestricted funds.  The all volunteer committees are instrumental in helping FCF meet its mission.
  • Two of our volunteer translators are college students – making time between studies to translate one or two documents a week.
FCF’s President, Alex Garcia, started as a volunteer, co-chairing the first 8 Washington DC events and doing bookkeeping.
