You can change a child’s life by becoming a Fabretto sponsor. You can make it possible for your sponsored child to stay in school and get the education he or she needs to lead a life free from poverty and hunger.
Due to extreme poverty, many Nicaraguan children forfeit their education and an ultimate chance for a decent life because they must drop out of school to beg on the streets, stay home to take care of younger siblings, or work to help support their family. In many cases, they also drop out because their parents simply cannot afford the uniforms and supplies necessary to send them to school.
Your sponsorship will ensure that once a child starts down the path to self-sufficiency, Fabretto will be able to continue to offer him or her educational opportunities far beyond those offered in the traditional schooling system as well as the supplies and uniforms they need to stay in their regular school until he or she graduates and becomes a responsible, employable adult.
At Fabretto, we have many children who are not yet sponsored in need of your support to stay enrolled in our programs. We meet their needs through grants and donations, but primarily through long term commitments between sponsor and child. For example, we added over 2,000 children in 2005 with a USAID grant that allowed us to expand our services to 17 rural schools through 2007. While we are delighted that these children are now able to stay in school, there are so many more in need. The staff of Fabretto continues to seek new funding sources to support the education of even more children at risk. By becoming a sponsor, you help us expand our programs to guarantee more students the opportunity to better their lives and those of their families. We greatly depend upon the generosity of sponsors who are willing to invest long term in a child’s brighter future. Being able to rely on your sponsorship means a child will now have the access he or she would otherwise lack to a solid education, healthcare and nutrition programs. Your commitment means breaking the cycle of poverty in Nicaragua one child at a time.
At $30 a month, you can sponsor a child through elementary and high school. Your sponsorship will provide him or her with a daily, healthy lunch, the required school uniforms and supplies, and access to Fabretto’s after-school enrichment programs. This is where our greatest need stands at the moment.
At $65 a month, you can sponsor a high school student enrolled in a vocational training program or a university student as he or she pursues college level job training. Scholarship support is used to pay for transportation, school fees and tuition, supplies and occasionally room and board.
Becoming a Fabretto sponsor is fast and easy. Just fill it out and return the Sponsorship Enrollment Form. There are two ways to pay for your sponsorship: monthly by credit card or monthly by EFT (direct debit from your checking account).
When you sign up to sponsor a child, you will receive a profile and photo of your sponsored child along with Sponsorship Guidelines explaining the program in detail. Finally, you will also receive annual updates about your sponsored child’s well-being and their academic progress during the year.
In Spanish, the children call their sponsors Padrino or Madrina or literally, godfather and godmother. They view their sponsors not solely as someone giving them financial support to pursue their education, but as new members of their family and as adults who care deeply about their physical and emotional wellbeing.
Twice a year, we will send you an email update or message from your “godchild” so that you can see how your sponsorship is impacting his or her life. Corresponding with your child will be one of the most rewarding aspects of your sponsorship for both you and your child. The children are immensely grateful for the opportunity provided to them via sponsorship and their letters reflect these feelings and are wonderfully touching. They know and understand that having a sponsor is a guarantee that they can continue to participate in all the Fabretto programs and continue with their schooling until adulthood.
